Seek Legs for Marshall & Wendell Ampico Grand
By Jay Hill

Unfortunately, a moving company lost the rear legs for my Marshall &
Wendell (with Ampico reproducing mechanism) baby grand. The serial
number on the piano is 109801, putting it at 1927 according to someone
who worked on it. It's approximately 5 feet long.

All the legs are double sets, with two columns and two castors on each
set. The two mounting-screw holes in the piano itself for the rear set
of legs are 10-1/2" apart, center-to-center. The screws themselves are
1/2" diameter and 3-1/2" long. The front two sets of legs are 22" x 3"
at their widest, and 24" tall (from the floor to the piano).

The missing rear set is curved to follow the curve of the body of the
piano. The style is a simple, unornamented model. The closest picture
I could find on the web of a similar piano is at the AMICA web site.
My model is simpler, though, and its legs don't have the ornamental
central column. Also, this picture only shows the front legs, and not
the rear set which is what I'm after. See http://www.amica.org/m-w3.jpg.

Ideally, I'd like to find a set of legs from that model and year that
fit, but anything that would work, or even plans or tracings of legs
from similar models, would be greatly appreciated. The rear of the
piano is setting on cinder blocks right now.

Thanks,
Jay Hill <jshill@jump.net>
