A lot has been written recently about the factors causing rolls to tear
and how to adjust tracking etc. to avoid the problem. Can this
discussion lead on to the best ways to repair the edges and body of
damaged rolls? Sometimes the paper becomes very brittle with age. Can
this be rectified in any way so that an original role can be preserved
for posterity. Finally, on non-self-tracking machines, I have at least
two roles that behave in a 'wave pattern' as they play. Thus, they track
into and out of play and are therefore of little use unless guided by
hand as playing progresses.  Is there any way of removing this
longitudinal distortion?

I read somewhere that there is a strong archival paper repair material
that, when applied to a torn edge, is almost invisible. Apparently, it
does not significantly affect the thickness of the paper.
