In response to Matthew Caulfield's post in MMD 2001.10.13.01;

This made me think of a material that I came across at the local Kragen
Auto parts store. Some artificial Chamois have the same properties of
this gasket material but I haven't tried cutting it up and testing it
yet. It's a man made material but who knows how they make it.

It seems to be resilient yet soft. Next time I'm there I'll get the
brand name. It would be important to know how it acts with hide glue
and orange shellac. Has anyone already tried this artificial chamois
material?
