In Search of Moszkowski
By Robert Smith

Sadly, though he lived until 1926, Moszkowski made no disc recordings
or reproducing rolls. I remember reading years ago that he had made
some hand played rolls. Some time back I ran across an Arto roll of
the Leibeswalzer Opus 57 #5 which purports to be "played by the
composer". It has a dynamic dotted line which runs the length of the
roll as well as what appear to be pedaling holes to the left of the
music holes. While intact, the roll seems to be in somewhat delicate
condition and I have not yet arranged to have it played (I don't own
a player piano myself).

Can and would anyone be so kind as to offer more information about
Moszkowski's hand played rolls i.e., what pieces he recorded and for
what company? I recall that the Arto rolls were produced in the
U.S.A., so I would guess that this particular roll was a transcription
of a recording made in Europe.
