Zephyr Skin from The Leather Supply House
By Michael Start

Paul Saint-Denis is right to recognise the unique qualities of zephyr
skins for small pneumatics. The 'springy' responsiveness is very
evident in the detailed song of fine 'snuffbox' singing birds.

However, we have had occasions when the quality has been variable, and
this prompted us recently to order skins from 3 different suppliers
around the world. What came back was amazing in its variety. By far
the best was from The Leather Supply House in the U.S., whose skin
arrived faster than the U.K. orders and was bigger, more uniform, and
more resistant to layer separation. They also have several different
thicknesses to choose from.

We also use zephyr skin for the restoration of eyelids and lips of our
antique automata, where its qualities are perfectly suited to the job.
