Mechanical Musical Instruments of Russia
By Paul Bellamy

I worked on and off in Russia and the ex-CIS states for about seven
years and found little. If you include gramophones, they made good
quality reproductions of the Thorens portable and collapsible tin plate
gramophone in the style of a large, old fashioned, camera (11 x 5 x 2
inches), inscribed MGM. Also, they made small portable gramophones
(10 x 7 x 5 inches).

I know little about their history except that the products continued
in production long after they were superceded in the West.

[ The Soviet military continued to use vacuum tubes long after the
[ western countries were transistorized. So now Russia is about
[ the world's only good source of replacement vacuum tubes for
[ vintage test equipment and guitar amplifiers! -- Robbie
