Seasons greetings from the frozen north!  I hate to state the
obvious, but whenever I have had to deal with rotten or missing
cord on the "fishing Pole" type tracker, I used fishing line!

It's cheap.  It's easy to find.  A thirty pound test line is about
right for the job.  There will be plenty left to go fishing with,
after the player piano is repaired!
