Date of Weber Unika Orchestrion
By Bjorn Isebaert

Dear MMDers, Some time ago, a friend of mine bought a nearly mint
Weber Unika. Apart from the leather, everything was in perfect
condition; only the motor had to be replaced (had also been done
previously). There are about 22 rolls with it, about 3/4 were original
Weber rolls. My friend had it tuned last week, and the man who tuned
it said that it was built between 1880 and 1890, judging from the
numbers inside the orchestrion.

Of course, I have my doubts about this dating, which is way too early,
I think. I was wondering if someone would be able to give more
accurate information. The numbers we found inside the instrument are
as follows:

The board on which the roll mechanism is mounted bears the number 2547.
Inside at the back, left of the Feurich piano frame, is the number 43039.

Many thanks in advance !
