English Barrel Organ by Joseph Hicks of Bristol
By Craig Smith

Hello, I'm looking for information about an English barrel organ that
I acquired recently. With the help of a friend near Chicago, I have
gotten some information about the design and construction of the organ
(which is fascinating in itself). I believe it was made by Joseph
Hicks of Bristol in the early 1800's based on references from Arthur
Ord-Hume's books.

A similar organ is pictured in a recent COAA Bulletin and in two old
articles in MBSGB journals from the early 1980's. One of the articles
was written by a fellow named Michael Bennett-Levy who lives in
England, I think. My friend is sending me copies of the articles but
I'd like to contact Mr. Bennett-Levy to compare notes and descriptions.

I wonder if anyone knows this fellow and could put us in touch.

Thanks
