Player Pianos Are Alive and Well in 2002
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, Just a quick posting to let everyone know that the sales of
items related to the pneumatic player piano are up for the seventh year
in a row.

I truly thought that sales would flatten in 2002, but that has not been
the case. The most significant increase has been the sale of technical
materials, which tripled this year. Following a close second is the
sale of rebuilding supplies. And last, but hardly least, is the sale
of music rolls, which have become my bread-and-butter. And trust me
when I say that you have to sell a lot of music rolls for them to become
your bread-and-butter when you are working on a 20% profit margin.
(Those who work in retail sales know exactly what I'm saying...)

So, to the naysayers who would have us believe that the pneumatic
player piano is a thing of the past, or a totally worthless item, or
better off 'dead', "walk a mile in my shoes". I'm 'pleased-as-punch'
to be involved with the old player pianos.

Musically,

John A. Tuttle
