I immediately come to think of "gramophone" which is the Swedish
and British generic word for a disc-playing talking machine.  While
Americans use "phonograph" (as Mr. Edison originally did, as he also
envisaged a disc-playing variety of his tin-foil machine), Russians
and Romanians use "patefon" (from the hill-and-dale Pathephone,
I presume).

Now what did the Greeks say?  Zonophone?  Or Xenophon? ;-)
