New Brass Freins and Pipe Tuning Slides
By Marc Elbasani

Dear MMDians, I may soon be punching out more brass freins out
of 0.032 inch half-hard brass. I'm likely to try out tuning slides.

Can anyone suggest thicknesses for brass tuning sliders? And perhaps
variations of thickness? For example, a 2" wide violin pipe -- What
thickness would you recommend for that span? How about 1" or 0.5"?
Any information on the matter would be much appreciated.

Also, how wide are tuning slots in relation to overall width, typically?
I have some figures, but I'd like to see what the range is. I'm sure
every firm had their own standard.

All the best,
Marc Elbasani
