Band Organ Is Too Loud
By Tom Grace

Hi Gang -- Well, I think it has been said here that we know what the
_real_ problem is. The younger kids just don't like the band organ
music so they make an excuse that it's broken or too loud.

I have also run into this many times myself. A carousel in Long Beach
had a large Mortier cafe organ inside the building that was never
played for this reason. I was happy to hear it on one of the last
nights before the carousel was closed and removed, and I must say it
was a thrill to hear and was in top form.

The carousel in Griffith Park, Los Angeles, Calif., has a Stinson 187
that plays daily, I am happy to say; a real treat, and I stop by to
take a listen when ever I am in the area.

The bottom line is the management needs to step in and take hand and
see that these instruments are being played. Spot surprise inspections
will do the trick, and employees saying it's broken will be caught and
should be terminated on the spot. I think it will not take long for
them to start to tolerate the music that provides the atmosphere that
all carousels should spin by.
