Voltage Converters 115V Input 230V Output
By Craig Smith

It's a simple job to convert 110 VAC to 220 VAC so that you can use
220 volt items on a 110 volt line.

Go to http://www.allelectronics.com/ and you will find a number of
transformers that will do the job. The 1000 watt transformer will cost
about $75 but the smaller ones are a lot less. They are simple 2:1
voltage transformers and they usually work in either direction.

Please be careful of polarity and grounding/isolation. And certainly
be aware that the 220V that comes out the other end is a lot more
dangerous than the 110V that goes in the front. (Not that you should
wire up 110V while watering the lawn.)

Of course, this assumes that the 50 Hz vs. 60 Hz difference isn't an
issue. Often the pulley or drive shaft diameter can be adjusted to
overcome this problem if this is a synchronous drive. If it's
something simple like a couple of lamps, you can usually substitute
a 110 volt version for the 220 volt device. Perhaps the easiest thing
to do is to run a dedicated 220 volt line to the item in question.

If we knew exactly what you were trying to power, we could provide
a better and more specific solution.
