Kieselhorst Department Store of St. Louis MO
By D. L. Bullock

Well, welcome to MMD, Mr. Kieselhorst. I, too, would like to know
more about Kieselhorst Dept Store. I have several Kieselhorst pianos
I found right here in St. Louis. I also have seen many piano rolls
with your name on them. I have had numerous long-time St. Louisans
tell me about Kieselhorst Department Stores here.

It seems that Edwin Kieselhorst did not actually make the pianos.
I have one player, a Price and Teeple, with the Kieselhorst name on it.
I have one silent upright in my front window I recently found. It has
a lovely art case and needs restoration, of course. I have seen a
couple of other players that I remember were probably built by Schulz.

I would like to know if there is any documentation or memories of all
the various piano companies that actually built the pianos with the
Kieselhorst name on them. This is a practice that is done today as
much, or more, than ever. You may go to a piano company and contract
a number of pianos made with your name on them today for your store.
These are called "stencil" pianos. If I had a list of actual
manufacturers, I could look up the serial numbers since there are
none in the Pierce "Piano Atlas" now.

I also have a perfectly restored Whitney (Kimball) player with a small
decal on it saying "Kieselhorst Dept. Store".
