Cloth-covered Electric Wire
By Ed Kigler

Recently Stephen Kent Goodman wrote about reproduction antique wiring
supplied by Sundial Wire Company. I noted that he ordered #10 wire
(which is good), but their catalog lists wire as small as #22 awg.
I would hesitate to use this small a wire as [a connection to] a power
supply. Normally the minimum would be #18 awg, which is good for about
800 watts. Smaller gauges are dangerous and present a fire hazard.
When you use wire, consider not only the voltage and temperature
ratings, but also the ampere and wattage usage.
