I was shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Richard Vance.
Richard was very active in the mechanical music field, both in terms
of working on and studying the machines, and in getting to know others
who shared his interests.  He enjoyed traveling and planned his trips
around meeting other mechanical music enthusiasts.  I was fortunate
to meet Richard several times.  The last time I saw him was in England
when we both attended the Player Piano Group annual meeting.

Richard was an engineer who studied the mechanical aspects of these
machines, and was always eager to learn more.  He had a special
interest in the Aeolian Orchestrelle and often wrote about in the MMD.
His contributions and knowledge will be greatly missed.
