Workbench Ergonomics
By Bryan Cather

Yesterday, when I got home from the shop, my back and neck were aching
severely, such that lifting my head from my pillow in bed was quite
painful. I had spent much of the day bent over a workbench doing
various tasks, and, in the past have not experienced pain such as this.

The only thing I did differently was attend a concert in the park after
work, where I sat for about a hour on the ground, often propped on one
elbow. However, I moved around frequently and doubt that this was
a significant contributor to my back pain.

I am curious about how other full-time techs deal with the ergonomics
involved in working relatively pain-free. I am aware that proper bench
height is crucial; I wonder if back support braces or other similar
devices have been helpful to others
