Playing 88-Note Rolls on Ampico Player Piano
By Joel Cluskey

I just finished restoring the Ampico system in a J.C. Fischer
upright (ca. 1926) and it plays wonderfully! If I turn the "Automatic"
switch off and play a standard 88-note roll, it plays fine, but quietly.
Pressing the manual bass and treble expression buttons at the key slip
raises the volume to full power as they should.

Is there a way to play a standard roll and set the system to play at
a higher volume? Or were you expected to sit at the piano and hold
down the buttons the whole time if you wanted it to play it loud?

 [ I just punch holes at the beginning of the roll in channels 4B & 4T;
 [ if it's still too quiet I add holes at 2B & 2T, etc.  -- Robbie
