Playing 88-Note Rolls on Ampico Player Piano
By John A. Tuttle

Hi All, In answer to Joel Cluskey's question, the Ampico system was
designed to be operated manually when using regular 88-note music
rolls. However, as Robbie noted, the 'normal' playing volume can be
"permanently" pre-selected by activating the expression mechanism at
the very beginning of the roll. The most desirable playing volume can
only be determined by the user, so I would suggest experimenting with
different levels before punching holes in all of the 88-note rolls.

It might be found that some music sounds best at a lower volume while
others sound better at a higher volume.

Musically,
