Seek Help With Nicole Freres Restoration
By Phil Procter

I have just bought a movement for a twelve-inch cylinder keywind
Nicole Freres "two per turn" twelve-air box with a 127-tooth comb,
ser. no. 38862, gamme no. 1963.

It comprises of the bedplate, a good cylinder and a perfect comb,
however there are a few main components like the spring motor and
governor missing. It does sound pretty good even when carefully
pulled 'round by hand, so it is well worth restoring.

I need dimensions and/or photographs of :-

 - The complete spring barrel assembly and bridges, along with spring
thickness, etc.

 - The governor, in particular details of the number of teeth on the
wheels and pinions, and overall dimensions of the block. I believe
the first wheel would be 60 or 62 teeth as opposed to the more common
50 teeth.

I will try and find an original case for this, but failing that I will
have to make one for it, so I would need some overall sizes. I can
manufacture all these parts from new myself, but would like to accurately
copy some original ones if possible. If anyone thinks they might be
able to offer any help I would love to hear from you, please.

I have tried to get gamme no. 1963 tune list from the MBSGB registrar
but he does not have it listed, I am afraid. The tunes are mainly, if
not all, Scottish ones.

Thanks
Phil Procter
