Dear MaryAnn, Your Empress disc musical box was made by a Swiss
company named Mermod Freres (Mermod Brothers). It is their brand
named Mira which was sold by the Chicago firm of Lyon & Healy under
their house brand Empress.
There are a number of professional restorers in the USA who should be
able to help you. Here is a list of the restorers I am familiar with.
This list updates a list I posted on MMD about five years ago. This
list is more complete.
You should be able to ship your musical box to any of them for repair
and a new winding handle. I suggest you contact a few of them to
discuss the symptoms, repair needs and their charges and repair
timeframes.
