Player Piano Company and Computers
By D. L. Bullock

Yes, Durrell has been going since the 1960s. He did try to be the
first to go all computer, back in the early 1970s. Someone got him
set up with a main frame computer, and as you know he haunts the
salvage yards for everything, so I suspect that too was salvage as
well. He went through the bother of getting the system up and running
and had it going for some time. After some real horror stories that
he feared would put him out of business, he swore off all computers.

He says he has a computer in the shipping department to print out
shipping labels these days, but everything in the office stays in that
room full of file cabinets. This is why you must give your customer
number before they will take your order. They cannot type in a phone
number or name to get the customer number. They must go through the
file cabinets to find your customer number if you don't have it.
