Recutting Rare Music Rolls
By David Sharpe

Ben McCall's idea for a central listing of rolls available for
recutting and collector's top roll wants sounds like a great idea.
I have written him of my interest and I hope more MMD'ers will do
the same.

Many years ago I lent several rolls to the Powells for recutting.
I always got them back and was happy to be able to get new copies
on good paper. I think the scanners used now do not demand rolls in
perfect shape so this might be a way for someone to get a good new
copy of a rare roll that is close to self-destruction.

The large recutting projects where one has to buy a group of 50 or
more rolls are good for new collectors, but I have now decided against
subscribing to these when only three or four of the 50 are things
I don't have and of interest. I would hope that a list such as Ben
suggests could show which rolls would sell and interest the recutters
in producing individual rolls.

On a completely different topic: I wish everyone would list their
locations, especially those offering something for sale or trade or
free. I am often slightly tempted and would be more seriously
interested if I knew the item was close enough to drive to see.
