Glenn Thomas had some queries concerning the practicalities of visiting
the Great Dorset Steam Fair.

It is possible to use public transport to visit the Steam Fair.  The
Wilts & Dorset bus company is the main service provider in the area.
Their web site is www.wdbus.co.uk.  They have a regular scheduled
service (route number 184) running between Salisbury, Blandford Forum,
Dorchester, Weymouth that passes the main entrance to the fair, and
buses will stop to set down and pick up passengers there.  The current
timetable for this route may be found at

The nearest timing point in the timetable to the steam fair site is
Tarrant Hinton, itself a small village.  It may be worth enquiring with
Wilts & Dorset as to whether additional buses will be running for the
duration of the show.

If travelling from further away, there are railway stations at
Salisbury, Dorchester and Weymouth.  All three stations are served by
trains from London and elsewhere.  Times of trains for journey between
any two stations in Great Britain are available on-line at
www.nationalrail.co.uk.  Use the 'plan my journey' option.  Salisbury
is the nearest station to the Steam Fair for the bus connections.

Please note that both bus and train times are liable to change between
now and the end of August, so it will be necessary to check times
immediately before travelling.  Good luck with the planning!
