Two New 165 Band Organ Rolls Arranged
By Matthew Caulfield

I am proud to announce the completion of arrangements for two new
Wurlitzer 165 band organ rolls, done by the virtuoso arranger Richie
Poor. The rolls are 6836 and 6837, each a ten-tune roll in the
Wurlitzer style. 6837 starts with Stephen Kent Goodman's rousing
march/two step, "Painting The Town Red, White, And Blue," and ends
with the tune they said couldn't be done for the band organ, David
Thomas Roberts' dirge in memory of the great baseball player, Roberto
Clemente, who lost his life on an airplane mercy mission to Cuba.

I was impressed long ago by L. Douglas Henderson's Artcraft piano-roll
arrangement of "Roberto Clemente," but nobody dared tackle a band organ
arrangement -- until Richie Poor did it. He experimented with various
tempos, between the slow tempo that suits a piece like this and the
usual lively band organ tempo. Then Douglas Henderson weighed in with
his critique of the tempos and style.

You can hear all twenty tunes in MP3 audio format on my Wurlitzer
roll web site. Just go to the homepage http://wurlitzer-rolls.com/
and click on the link you will find at the top of the page. That
will transport you to the two new rolls, 6836 and 6837. I challenge
everyone to identify the band organ on which the tunes are played!

Suggestions for tunes you would like to hear on roll 6838 are welcomed.
