To fill in with Jim Cook 2005.08.31-08, isopropanol (isopropyl alcohol,
(CH3)2CHOH) is an excellent mild all-round solvent, colorless, with
a pleasant smell, boiling at 82 deg. C, flammable.  But poisonous enough
you should not drink it, does not give euphoria, lethal dose some 250
ml.  I usually get it from the pharmacy.

Isopropanol is used instead of ethanol in a large number of cosmetic
preparations and, in somewhat water diluted form, is the standard
'spirit' for skin and wound disinfection in health care.  On cotton
or other sods it is the ideal agent for cleaning the goo off optics,
tape recorder heads, computer screens and keyboards, telephones, you
name it...
