Player Piano Motor Runs Backward
By Bob Taylor

Brian Chesters comments about his Ampico pump running backwards
reflects a mismatch of pump and motor. Ampico pumps and motors turn
clockwise. Duo-Art pumps and motors turn counter-clockwise.

If the mounting of the pump pulley was by some method other than screw
threads, it would not make any difference, but both system use screw
threads to mount the pump pulley on the shaft. Ampico is right-hand
thread, Duo-Art is left hand thread. Tuning the pump in the wrong
direction will result in the pulley unscrewing from the shaft.

Depending upon the type of motor, internal wiring changes can reverse
the direction.
