Hi,  I tend to agree with the comments of not rewiring the motor
for non-USA mains, but this still does not address Brian Chester's
original problem.

Brian has a pump with a motor turning the wrong direction but working
on the correct voltage.  I have been told that reversing the direction
of travel on a motor is merely a question of reversing the wires on the
starter.  My suggestion would be to take it to an expert and have the
starter wires reversed and be done with it.

In the event that the motor direction cannot be changed and he wants to
use it as it is, there is a fairly simple solution that Bob Streicher
suggested to me.  The problem is that the spinning of the motor can
unscrew the flywheel when it is spun in the wrong direction.  If you
drill a hole and tap threads for a screw that is lodged between the axle
and the driving wheel of the pump, then that screw can keep the wheel
from unscrewing and thus keep it in place, even if it's moving in the
wrong direction.
