Capitol "G" Roll G-510 of 1933
By Frank Himpsl

Regarding the G-roll at eBay auction [060423 MMDigest]. Like any
collectible, the price skyrockets when you have two bidders after
the same item. As far as I'm concerned the "roof" price is whatever
the high bidder can live with and still be happy with his purchase.
In this case it may have been a price record for a coin-op roll, but
it was worth that much to the buyer at the time of sale. That's what
determines the value.

The downside as is that floating talk about sales like these can lead
other sellers to think all Capitol G-rolls (or any rolls) are worth in
the many hundreds of dollars. Of course they're not. But they are
certainly very scarce and have tangible value.

Capitol G-510 has actually been with us for some 30+ years. It was
recut by Ed Freyer either in the late 1960s or early '70s. Ed had
most of the titles but the catalog number at the bottom of the label
was missing, so he made up his own number. He issued it as No. G-110X,
as follows:

Capitol G-Roll No. G-110X, as issued by Ed Freyer; this is
actually Capitol G-510:

 1. Goodnight, Little Girl Of My Dreams
 2. I'm In The Money (As issued by Freyer.
Correct title: We're In The Money)
 3. Lazy Bones
 4. By A Waterfall
 5. Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wolf?
 6. Till Then (As issued by Freyer.
      Correct title: Bless Your Heart)
 7. Unknown Selection (As issued by Freyer.
      Correct title: I'll Be Faithful)
 8. It's The Talk Of The Town
 9. Hold Me
10. Marching Along Together

This roll was recut many times because each of the tunes is just
terrific. I've only seen it as a Freyer recut and I don't think
Play-Rite ever cut it during the many Ray Siou campaigns.

All best,
