T-100 Red Welte Mason & Hamlin Pianos
By Bob Hodge

Re 060516 MMDigest: Interesting threads! A couple of thoughts --

The red paper Welte-Mignon piano which was located at the Musical
Museum in Deansboro, New York, is a Freiburg-built instrument. Where
it and the roll collection is now I don't know. It disappeared
before the auction. My red Welte was built in Poughkeepsie, New York.
I believe that all red and green Welte's have brass tubing as does
mine.

A look at the BBC web site doesn't show anything for Auxetophone.
Is there anything else that you know about the show? I've wanted
to hear one of these for years, but only found inoperative examples
in museums, usually missing the compressor which I understand was
prone to catching fire and whose oil would clog up the special
pneumatic soundbox.

[Re Aeolian Vibrations] Does the amount of sag, wire diameter and
length and thermal coefficient in a high tension power line dictate
the damping coefficient of the dampers used? Is the distance
between towers and wire size an industry standard?

Thanks !
Bob Hodge
