Recording a Music Box
By Beatrice Robertson Farmer

I have found that a digital recorder (including video cameras) does
a fine job of recording musical boxes, _if_ you have a good microphone.
I use a Sony miniDisc, which is a fairly inexpensive recorder player
from the era before iPods, and a digital microphone. I generally set
the musical box to be recorded on a good sound box (my Stella console
is great) and arrange the mic in front and below the musical box.
That helps relieve some of the extraneous sounds of a musical box.

The master of recording small musical items is Frank Metzger. However,
I do not believe Dr. Metzger is participating in MMD any longer. Good
luck with your project.
