AMICA Technical Session
By Bob Taylor

I would like to thank everyone who responded to my request for
suggestions on my upcoming session at the AMICA convention. As it
turns out, those responding have made a difference. Several other
fellow presenters also posted information about their sessions.
Based on those posts, I have reduced my discussion on roll scanning,
which was not really my main topic.

The time allowed for a session really limits how much can be covered.
Since my topic is the Aeolian Company and its Premiere product, the
Player Pipe Organ, the scope is huge. I was able to compact my
prepared remarks into a 35-minute DVD which will be shown, and
following that the remainder of the session can be open discussion.

By using audio visual resources, a lot of interesting material
can be covered quickly. Included will excerpts of 10 Duo-Art organ
rolls, giving examples of the orchestral organ versatility. Also
a visual tour of some of the most elaborate installations, published
advertisements, and a brief chat with someone who had connections with
the bygone era of residence player pipe organs.

The most technical part of this session is how to play the 116-note
roll playing Aeolian pipe organ. These rolls are shown in great
detail. My organ, Opus 1280, provides the backdrop and music, but
it is not really the feature.

I will have extra copies of the DVD at the mart.
