Rube Goldberg Restorations
By Bob Hodge

I once saw a late model Edison home phonograph with a seized up mandrel
bearing which had been dipped several times in polyurethane varnish in
its' entirety, even the motor and reproducer. It surfaced at several
antique shows here in Syracuse after which it submerged, never to be
seen again. Taking a picture of it would have been impossible as it
shone like a spitball in the sun. I didn't ask the seller why he or
she had done it as I was positive I wouldn't have liked the answer.
