Organ Roll Spool Flanges of Metal
By Leslie Hoffman

I collect player pump organs. Up to now it has been Aeolians but
recently I purchased two Wilcox & White 46-note organs and they came
with over 100 rolls! I am just now starting to catalog these rolls.

I have one question: I've notice that, with both companies, there was
a time period that they made the rolls with metal ends on the spools.
Any thoughts? The only thing I can come up with: possibly during war
wood was a priority to the military, so music companies used metal.
I know that I might be reaching on that but it would be like the 1943
steel penny because of the copper shortage for the military in WW2.
