Wurlitzer Gearbox Lubrication
By Clark McNally

Hi Group, I just inherited what I found out was a Wurlitzer Automatic
Player Piano with a magazine that rotates music rolls of 3-5 songs
each. The instrument is a little larger than an upright piano, with
stained glass, and I think it is referred to as a style 1-X. It plays
pretty good at the drop of a nickel, but I am told that I should keep
motor oil in the gearbox at the bottom. I haven't played it much
fearing that I would damage the gears until I found out (1) What kind
of oil is used and (2) How much should be put in?

The manual that came with it tells about an "oil level gauge" but
I can't find anything that looks like a clear window or gauge on the
gear box (this converts the motor shaft rotation to the bicycle-like
pumping action). Can anyone make any suggestions?

Thank you,
Clark McNally
