Carl Meyer described his sustain pedal modification in two postings 
in the Pianocorder Forum at http://www.voy.com/33099/  Search the
page for 'Meyer' and you will find the information.  I'm not sure
if Carl's fix will help your situation but it will at least give more
information about the subject.
