Calculations for Metallophone Bars
By John Page, UK

Oops, sorry, my finger slipped -- I must remember to read my posts.
I had meant to say 2/9 from each end, as others have rightly pointed out.

I always make the bars from bright mild steel, chrome plated after
tuning, as they are used on fairground organs, but aluminium is often
used on indoor instruments. My preference is for the bars to be mounted
vertically, hung from one nodal point only. The holes are lined with
a suitable size of silicone rubber tube, the kind used for model aero
engine fuel tube. This doesn't prohibit the vibrations of the ringing
bars. So often glockenspiels sound like pieces of metal being hit with
sticks, instead of sounding like bells. :-)
