British motors, to the best of my knowledge, are for 50 cycle [Hz] AC.
American motors are 60 cycle.  Some motors definitely do not like to
be run on 60 cycles and draw more current and get hot.  The cycle spec
should be checked on this motor.  This may or may not also be a
problem.

When I once owned the Tommy Warner Welte residence organ, we got it
going in the residence before removal.  That motor was for 50 cycle,
which was the old standard in Pasadena when the organ was purchased.
It got very hot, so that ended any idea of playing it.  The people who
installed the fire sprinkler system for the owners then managed to
walk all over some of the pipework and the purchase was cancelled.
David Junchen later bought and removed this fine organ and parted it
out.

 [ in UK operating around the world at many different mains frequencies.
 [ Bruce Newman's motor was made in Britain for export to North America
 [ so it bears a nameplate with 60 Hz ratings.  Exactly the same motor
 [ might be sold in UK bearing 50 Hz ratings.  Exactly the same motor,
 [ because it was designed especially for 50-60 Hz service.
