Play-a-sax Repair
By Mike Walter

Dear friends, David Sharp has inquired about Play-a-sax repair
using methods other than the one proposed by Spencer Chase. I have
used the "Liquid Wrench" method on my own Play-a-sax and it worked
very well. Using Liquid Wrench at the top end to penetrate and loosen
the semi-fused body is a very careful procedure that may require a bit
of light tapping at the top joint to start the process.

A small amount of pulling and turning may also help. Fortunately there
are no small fragile pieces to break off. Allow repeated applications
of liquid wrench if needed. Time should be taken in this effort.

Once the top has been successfully removed, the bottom should also be
loosened as well to ease the realignment process of the reed bank.
Once both ends are removed it would probably be a good idea to lightly
sand both male and female touching surfaces with 320 grit or finer
sandpaper.

Alignment of the reed bank and reassembly should be fairly easy.

Best wishes,
Mike Walter
