Andy, you are right, there are no current automatic musical
instruments in Tombstone, at least not that I saw when I was there
in January.  I wonder, do you know historically of any other musical
instruments, like orchestrions, that might have been there between
1881-1889 when the Bird Cage was open?  Any old pictures or writings
talking about the music of the Bird Cage?

The music heard in the Ghost Hunters episode is an "Electronic
Voice Phenomena" or "EVP", a recording of some sound phenomena.  The
investigators did not hear that music with their ears, only on the
EVP during the playback of the tape.  If you believe in EVPs that is
a common phenomena, that one does not hear it at the moment, but then
the sound is heard during playback of your recording.  EVPs are
supposed to pick up sounds of ghosts or other sounds from the past
(like music).

I appreciate Andrew Barrett's email that in his opinion the music does
sound like an instrument from that era of 1881-1889.  If we can indeed
pin that music clip to an instrument and tune from that era, that would
give more evidence to Ghost Hunters that they really did capture
something genuine, a real haunting.  You never know these days with
TV shows.

I love the Ghost Hunters shows, but you can never tell who could
have put a fake music clip in there, to try to fool the investigators.
If say that music sounded more like a 20th century automatic musical
instrument, and/or the tune was from a later era, then we could surmise
that the music clip is a fake, either by the producers of the show, or
by the people that own the Bird Cage and want to provide fake evidence
that it is haunted.

So, any further thoughts on this sound clip will be very interesting!
And maybe once we have the opinion of our many experts here, we can
forward a summary to the Ghost Hunters people.  I am sure they would be
very interested!
