Having joined Waddington & Sons as an apprentice piano technician in
1947 at the dizzy age of fourteen, I have something to relate on the
choice of the name Bremar.

My boss at that time had worked for Waddington for many years, as I
understand it.  He occasionally spoke of the "old man," one of the
founder's family.  This particular Mr. Waddington and his wife had
holidayed, or at least stayed, at Braemar in Scotland and later wanted
to use the name on a piano model.  The part of the story which relates
to permission from the Scottish authority involving too much money may
or may not be true.  In any event the name was derived from that fine
place by dropping the first "a".  They were respectable pianos.
