Seek Picture of 1916 Wurlitzer Player Piano
By Robbie Rhodes

Mr. William Neus, of Cincinnati, Ohio, writes:

I am looking for a picture of a Wurlitzer Strad 24256 player piano
(circa 1916). I have an original invoice for the purchase of this
piano and would like a picture to go with it for display at our 100
  year celebration of our church.

The player piano was purchased from the Rudolph Wurlitzer Co, 117-121
East Fourth Street, Cincinnati, Ohio, on March 6, 1916. I call it an
invoice but it is actually a Chattel Mortgage issued by the Wurlitzer
Co. to St. Clare Church. It was witnessed by a Roy J. Grumbine. That
is the only name in all the correspondence about the purchase from
Wurlitzer except an initial, either LS or FS.

The player piano was purchased from Wurlitzer by St. Clare Church
for use in the St. Clare school. I really appreciate your help!

On page 669 of his book, Encyclopedia of Automatic Musical Instruments,
author Q. David Bowers notes that "vast quantities of foot-pumped
88-note players for home use were made by Wurlitzer until well into
the late 1920s."

Please contact me if you have information or illustrations of the
foot-powered Wurlitzer player piano that I can pass along to Mr. Neus
for the centennial celebration of his church. Thank you.
