Fair Organs Should Play More Modern Music
By Craig Williams

I agree that new music for band organs would be wonderful. However,
I have asked the question several times: "Just what 'new music' would
you choose?"

It seems like much popular music today does not have much in the way of
melodies that would lend themselves to the band organ.

Rock or its present day variants? Give me some names.

Rap music? I guess if your organ has a good percussion section...

Country-Western? Not my cup of tea, but perhaps there are some recent
melodies the younger generation might recognize.

Musicals? Are there any from the last ten years that have recognizable
melodies? The YouTube video of "Phantom of the Opera" is really
great, but the musical came out in 1986, 20 years ago.

Perhaps someone else on the list could come up with a list of titles
that people under thirty would like to hear. With a MIDI interface
it might not be so difficult to arrange some new music for band organ,
but what would you choose?
