Mr. Ramet's recent comment about the cost of hosting high-quality
videos made me wonder how many other video hosting sites have been
explored by those of us in the community making these videos.

Certainly I agree that the "guerrilla" style video clips on YouTube are
more in keeping with the ADD 5 & 10 second media culture we see today,
but I would argue there is an equally great necessity for high-quality,
full-length media.

Recently I've noticed an interesting phenomenon; people are posting
videos to YouTube to get hits and generate interest and at the same
time linking to high definition (HD) versions hosted elsewhere.  Vimeo,
which I personally would consider superior to YouTube in nearly every
way (especially the lack of a resemblance to Facebook), has at the
moment only six results when searching for "draaiorgel" and only four
results for "band organ."

Not to sound like an advertisement, but Vimeo lets you post videos in
High-definition wide screen stereo with no individual file size or
length limit.  The only restriction for free hosting is a maximum
upload limit of 500 megabytes per week.  There are many videos
stretching well beyond an hour or more in length!

Compare the quality of this relatively short video of "De Brandweer"
to what you would likely find if you posted the same raw footage on

I suppose my point is short, low-quality clips are fine for sparking
interest but if that is all there is out there to enjoy interest can
be lost just as easily.
