Unknown 65-note Roll "Mendelssohn Portfolio"
By John Phillips

Hello MMD. I recently rescued a 65-note roll from the local piano
and pianola rebuilder's. It's in the wrong box but I guess that after
94 years it's lucky to have a box at all. There is some very faded
and mostly illegible patent information stamped on the somewhat
cut-down leader, and at the very end is the stamped date "FEB 16 1914".

All the stamping is in the purple ink that Aeolian favored. However,
there is no direct indication of Aeolian participation in the
manufacture of this roll. By the way, it's No. 90019, "Mendelssohn
Portfolio". It does not appear in the 1914 Aeolian Catalog. I have
scanned the leader label for the MMD Archive in the hope that someone
may recognise it.
