trying to tune it down one whole note lower or down one half note?
Your note transfers conflict.

  Lowering E to D is a whole tone lower
  Lowering F to E is a half tone lower

If you want to lower by a half step, or by a whole step, use this
guide: Drop down one note for a half step or drop down two notes for
a whole step.
