Mechanical Music in Europe
By Nigel Perry

Mike Knudsen says he might be in France for part of his holiday.
There's a mechanical music museum that I visited recently near Le Mans.
http://laureallanot.free.fr/ gets you there with a superb interactive
web site. The village is called Dollon, and is to the east of Le Mans.

We live nearly 12 miles to the west of Mayenne, which is to the west of
Le Mans, and found that it was a pretty tortuous route, with new roads
being constructed. 'Tom Tom' would be in trouble here, I think!

If approached from the east it's pretty straightforward. Philippe
Corbin speaks a little English and is a very pleasant and amusing host.
He conducts over an hours worth of entertainment, with some delightful
instruments, and a small auditorium where he shows about 20 minutes
worth of the Laurel and Hardy film, "The Piano". The fun is enhanced
by the French subtitles, which bear little relationship to the dialogue!
The web site gives all the info on opening hours.

If any MMDers find themselves in our part of the world, they would be
more than welcome for a coffee, and a look over my modest collection.

Best wishes,
Nigel Perry
