Rubber Bands on Music Rolls
By Matthew Caulfield

I received some rolls recently that had been stored with tight rubber
bands on them. The leader was completely ruined by the indentation
of the rubber band and it wasn't until thirty inches into the music
that the impressions disappeared. Fortunately, I believe that the
roll will be OK after I replace the leader paper.

But please do not store your music rolls with tight rubber bands on
them, especially for long-term storage! I don't let a rubber band
come near any roll I handle. If I need to anchor the end of the roll
for shipping, I use a small piece of blue (peelable) painter's tape.
Alternatively, a one-inch wide band of paper can be wrapped around the
roll and anchored to itself with a bit of Scotch® tape.
