Steinway "L"s Replacing "O"s

My grand says in the "V": LR, with "225707" below.  It has the less-
rounded end typical of the "L" and is the only one I've ever seen.  The
plate may have been repainted, but this looks original (perhaps
masked?).  It seems odd that anyone would repaint it with a different
model number, one that looks so much like original lettering.

The piano was refinished (stained lacquer, now peeling in spots),
restrung, and pneumatically rebuilt perhaps 30 years ago.
